Preparing for vacation may take a fashion forward traveler hours, but there is only so much space available. Here are some travel tips for packing luggage.

Traveling throughout the country or overseas is a great way to experience life. Many planned trips have all have a limited amount of space for carry-on items. This is true in air travel or when traveling in an automobile. Here are some tips on what to pack when traveling.

Think about the length of the trip. A weekend trip will require fewer items than a 14-day getaway. Preparing in advance for each activity that will be done can help each travel bag have more than enough space. If shopping is a planned activity purposely bring less clothing so that there is empty space in the suitcase.

Airline Luggage Restrictions

Traveling by air severely limits that amount of clothing and personal care items that can be taken on vacation. Many airlines have begun to charge for a second checked bag. Prices for an additional checked bag range in price from $ 25 to $50 or more depending on the airline. Always check with the Transportation Security Administration to find out out if an item needs to be transported as checked luggage, and which items are restricted.

Bring fabrics that do not take up a lot of space. Bulky items like blue jeans and wool sweaters should be limited in carry-on luggage. Wear an extra piece of clothing while traveling. This could be a sweater, blazer, blue jeans, or another bulky item that may take up a lot of space in the travel bag. Wear the heaviest pair of shoes while traveling. Carry-on and checked baggage has a weight limit. Wearing athletic shoes, jeans, boots, or a heavy layering item can take five or more pounds out of the luggage.

Choose outfits that require minimal ironing and that roll well. Rolling items in a suitcase or travel bag helps to add a bit more space. Pack fabrics that can be easily washed and air dried. Try to keep at least one change of clothes in the bag that is carried onto the plane. In the event luggage is misplaced or lost, or a flight is delayed overnight there are basic toiletries and a change of clothing available.

Travel Size Toiletries

Invest in two sets of travel sized toiletry bottles. Keep one in checked in luggage, and the other in a purse or carry-on bag. Simply fill the bottles with personal care items like body wash, shampoo, and conditioner. Purchase travel sized deodorant, toothpaste, and mouthwash to keep in the carry-on bag. Use these tips when deciding what to pack for vacation.
